At a glance
This is a gathering for the Who’s Who of photonics research around the world. The latest developments in basic research and upcoming applications in actual practice are discussed at the World of Photonics Congress.
Gathering for international photonics research
Every two years, the international scientific elite in photonics research meets at the World Photonics Congress in Munich. All aspects of research – from fundamental and application-based scientific topics to the latest laser and photonics applications in industry and medicine – are presented and discussed in scientific conferences and a practice-oriented series of application panels. The World of Photonics Congress is an absolute must for anyone who wants to gather information on the latest application sectors and topics that pertain to photonics technology!
Synergy between research and industry
The World of Photonics Congress is traditionally held in conjunction with the international trade fair LASER World of PHOTONICS. All key players and decision-makers come to Munich to meet at the most important marketplace for the photonics industry.
The fair gives participants from more than 70 countries a complete overview of all topics that pertain to optical technologies on 55,000 square meters of exhibition space.
The latest milestones in photonics research on the one hand, and a concentrated showcase of the photonics industry on the other: This concept allows participants to experience a unique combination of science, innovative technologies and industrial application sectors.
2015: Gathering of the elite at the World of Photonics Congress
The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies declared by UNESCO was a golden thread running not just through the trade fair but also through the World of Photonics Congress in the International Congress Center Munich (ICM).
The Munich event is also very important for Nobel Prize winners: “Trade fairs such as this are very important because they provide the pieces of the puzzle for the next point and steps in my career”, says Dr. Eric Betzig, Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2014. A further three Nobel Prize winners delivered lectures: Prof. Stefan Hell, Prof. Serge Haroche and Prof. Theodor Hänsch.
That again made the World of Photonics Congress, with eight scientific conferences, more than 2,700 lectures and approximately 3,900 participants, an important meeting place for the international scientific elite.
